Zoom – Microsoft Teams | Coming 10th May 2026
Over the past few years, online streaming via Zoom has become an integral part of church life. What began as an emergency response during Covid-19 has continued for over 6 years!
However, while Zoom has served us well, it has become increasingly difficult to operate reliably, particularly from the Cornerstone Centre.
After reviewing options, our technical team has identified a simpler and more reliable system using Microsoft Teams. For that reason, the elders and trustees have agreed to move all online services and meetings from Zoom to Microsoft Teams.
What is changing?
- We will continue using Zoom throughout April and on Sunday 3 May
- From Sunday 10 May, all online services and meetings will move to Microsoft Teams
- From that date, Zoom will no longer be used
Why are we making this change?
For those joining online, this will feel like a small change — but behind the scenes, it makes a big difference.
At the moment, setting up Zoom in the Cornerstone Centre is complicated and unreliable. It often requires specific people to be present and extra equipment to be connected.
Moving to Microsoft Teams allows us to simplify all of this. In particular:
- We won’t be reliant on a small number of people with specific logins
- All the equipment is fixed and in place already
- We’ve also been able to improve the sound and camera setup
And importantly, it means that anyone leading a meeting at the Cornerstone Centre will be able to run an online link easily, without needing special equipment, log-ins or technical know-how.
What will stay the same?
For most people, very little will change:
- You will still join meetings from a link that will be emailed out to you.
- The only difference is that the link will now open Microsoft Teams instead of Zoom.
What you may need to do
- If you use a phone or tablet, you will need to install the free Microsoft Teams app
- If you use a computer or laptop, you can usually join through your web browser
We strongly encourage you to try this before 10 May using a ‘Test’ meeting we have set up. The Tech team have put together full instructions on what you need to do:
We will help you!
We know that this may feel like a bit of a faff, especially if technology isn’t your thing.
Please don’t worry — if you need help at any stage, our Tech Team would be very happy to support you. Just contact Sian at admin@abercec.org.uk, and someone will be in touch.
Thank you for your patience over the next few weeks while we plan for this change.
And a very big thank you to Joel and Rob who have been working hard behind the scenes to put this all in place.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
